Scared siblings in “Darkness” and “Oculus”

Like my clever title? Well it was actually used for a special sibling preview of Oculus –  ”Dare your brother or sister to join you for a special siblings preview of Oculus.” So you know judging from that this film is going to be pretty sibling orientated!

Are you afraid of the dark?

Darkness (2002) and Oculus (2014) are two films that both deal with dark and mysterious forces in a house. In both films the sisters are trying to “save” their brothers, the sisters are also older and strong-willed.

In Oculus, a brother and sister (Kaylie and Tim) attempt to destroy the spirit-possessed mirror that killed their parents. Kaylie tries to exonerate her brother Tim, who was convicted of the murder, by proving that the crime was committed by this supernatural phenomenon. Spooky…Better be-careful what you pic up at that next garage sale!

I (or should I say eye? LOL) really liked the movie, especially because it shows the siblings growing up, and by that I mean being absolutely terrified in their house, and then in their adult years trying to seek revenge for their messed up childhood! The end will shock you though!

In Darkness, a teenage girl (Regina played by Anna Paquin) moves into a remote countryside house with her family, only to discover that their gloomy new home has a horrifying past that threatens to destroy the family, especially her little brother. I didn’t care for this film as much, as it just seemed to have so many plot holes, but the brother and sister relationship was very cute and protective.
